85-Year-Old Former Israeli Hostage Engages Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar with Thought-Provoking Questions in Gaza Tunnel

An 85-year-old Israeli woman, Yocheved Lifshitz, who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and released two weeks later, has revealed that she confronted the Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar during her captivity. Lifshitz expressed her astonishment and asked Sinwar how he could not be ashamed of his violent actions against peace activists like herself.

Lifshitz shared her encounter with Sinwar in an underground tunnel where the hostages were being held captive. She told the Hebrew-language Davar newspaper that Sinwar visited them three to four days after their arrival in captivity. Lifshitz boldly questioned him about his lack of shame for his actions towards people who have long supported peace.

However, Sinwar remained silent and did not provide an answer. Lifshitz, a renowned peace activist, has been actively involved in helping sick Palestinians in Gaza reach hospitals along with her husband for several years. Unfortunately, her 83-year-old husband, Oded, was also kidnapped and is still in captivity.

Speaking to reporters after her release, Lifshitz described her time as a hostage as a harrowing experience. She stated that she had gone through hell during the two weeks she spent in captivity in the Gaza Strip. Despite being initially beaten when abducted, Lifshitz mentioned that she was treated decently during her captivity.

Lifshitz was one of the four women released by Hamas early in the conflict. Her grandson informed Reuters that she and her husband had been abducted from their home. Lifshitz’s release sheds light on the suffering endured by innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
