Wasim Akram Shares His Opinion on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s T20I Future: “You Cannot Solely Rely on Them”

The future of veteran India cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20 cricket has been a topic of discussion recently. Since India’s defeat in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in November last year, both players have not featured in a T20 international match for the country. However, their impressive performances in ODI cricket have kept them in contention for the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram believes that India will need the duo for the upcoming T20 World Cup. “T20 World Cup is just a few months away. I will pick both. They will be the main players for India, no doubt about it. You need a little bit of experience in T20. You cannot solely rely on young guys,” said Akram.

In Rohit’s absence, Hardik Pandya has been leading the team in T20Is. Young players like Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rinku Singh have also performed well in the absence of Rohit and Kohli. However, Akram is not the only former cricketer backing the experienced duo to continue playing T20Is for India.

Former India pacer Ashish Nehra believes that age should not be the sole criteria to determine the future of players like Rohit and Kohli. Despite being 36 and 35 years old respectively, their skills and contributions to the team make them valuable assets.

Currently, India is playing a five-match T20I series against Australia. With Hardik sidelined due to injury, Suryakumar Yadav has been leading the team in his absence.

The discussion about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s T20I future will likely continue as India prepares for future tournaments.
