Virat Kohli, one of the greatest cricketers of all time, has achieved numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career. However, despite having a formidable squad, the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy has eluded him. When asked if he ever considered joining another franchise, Kohli admitted that he had thought about it.
In a conversation with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2022, Kohli revealed that multiple franchises had approached him to participate in the IPL auction. However, he made the decision to remain loyal to the Bengaluru-based franchise.
“To be honest, I did consider it. I won’t shy away from admitting that I have been approached many times to put my name in the auction and join other teams,” Kohli said.
“But then I thought about it and realized that at the end of the day, everyone has a limited number of years to live. No one addresses you as an IPL champion or a World Cup champion. It’s about being a good person and having people like you. That’s what life is all about,” he explained.
For Kohli, loyalty to RCB is more important than potentially winning the IPL trophy with another team. He values the trust and opportunities that RCB has given him, especially when other franchises did not believe in him.
“The loyalty RCB has shown me is far greater than the five minutes of happiness that winning the IPL with another team would bring. Life moves on, and there will always be other issues to deal with,” Kohli expressed.
Kohli also mentioned that when it comes to making significant decisions, he only considers the opinion of his wife, Anushka Sharma.
“There will always be ‘buts’ and criticisms, but I can’t live my life based on that. I focus on my own decisions and only rely on the opinion of myself and Anushka,” he concluded.
In summary, Virat Kohli, despite being approached by multiple franchises, remains loyal to RCB due to the trust and opportunities they have given him. He believes that personal integrity and the opinions of loved ones are more important than fleeting achievements.
