Telangana Congress Leader Accuses BRS’ K Kavitha of Violating Model Code of Conduct

Hyderabad, Telangana: Telangana Congress leader G Niranjan has filed a complaint against BRS MLC K Kavitha, alleging that she violated the model code of conduct by “soliciting votes” on election day.

According to Niranjan, Kavitha violated the Election Code by urging people to vote for BRS during a media interaction after casting her own vote at the polling station in DAV School, Banjara Hills. He has brought this matter to the attention of the State Chief Electoral Officer, Vikas Raj, seeking appropriate action.

K Kavitha, who cast her vote for the Telangana assembly polls, appealed to urban voters, particularly the youth, to exercise their right to vote. She emphasized the importance of participating in the democratic process and strengthening democracy.

Several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, have also urged the people of Telangana to vote in large numbers. The elections will decide the fate of 2290 candidates, with a total of 3.17 crore voters participating across 35,655 polling stations in the state.

In the previous assembly polls in 2014, the Congress secured 25.20% of the votes, while BRS (then TRS) obtained 34% of the votes in the Telangana area. However, in 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) emerged as the winner with 88 out of 119 seats and 47.4% of the vote share, leaving the Congress far behind with only 19 seats.
