Netflix Docuseries Exposes the Dark Reality of the American Nightmare

Denise Huskins, the victim of a high-profile kidnapping case in 2015, has opened up about her ordeal in the new Netflix docuseries American Nightmare. The series, directed by Felicity Morris and Bernadette Higgins, sheds light on the failure of the justice system in Huskins’ case.

Huskins and her now-husband Aaron Quinn recount the events that unfolded after she was taken from Quinn’s home in Vallejo, California. Initially, the police suspected Quinn of being involved in her disappearance. They even suggested that he had killed her and disposed of her body. However, as the investigation progressed, it became clear that Huskins was the victim of a real crime.

The series combines interviews, interrogation footage, and audio recordings to paint a harrowing picture of the couple’s experience. Despite the arrest, Huskins and Quinn faced continued skepticism and false accusations. They filed a defamation lawsuit against the City of Vallejo and its police department, which was settled out of court for $2.5 million. They have since become advocates for police reform and have called for the disbandment of the Vallejo Police Department due to their mistreatment.
