On Friday, she made a charitable donation totaling to $100,000 to the family of a woman who tragically lost her life in Kansas City during the shootings that took place at the parade honoring the local Super Bowl-winning American football team.
The benevolent act saw two separate donations of $50,000 each, made under the name of Taylor Swift. Interestingly, the popstar is in a relationship with a player from the Kansas City Chiefs. These donations were made on GoFundMe, a popular fundraising platform, set up to support the family of the deceased, Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan. The authenticity of these donations was later verified by a member of Taylor Swift’s team to Variety, a reputable magazine in the entertainment industry.
In a heartfelt message posted alongside one of the donations, Taylor Swift expressed her deep condolences and compassion for the family’s devastating loss, signing off with love.
The family had initiated this fundraiser with a hope to raise a minimum of $75,000. However, the generous donations from the “Bad Blood” singer swiftly surpassed this target. As of Saturday morning, the fund, which had been opened on Thursday, had accumulated an impressive $328,000 (equivalent to more than 300,000 euros) from over 4,400 donors.
The dreadful shooting incident occurred near the Kansas City train station, just as the parade was coming to an end. It resulted in 22 injuries, many of whom were children. In the aftermath, three individuals were taken into custody, including two minors, as per the police reports which suggested that the shots were fired due to a disagreement among several people.
At the time of the shooting, hundreds of thousands of people had gathered to witness the parade of the Chiefs, who had triumphed at the Super Bowl on Sunday by defeating the San Francisco 49ers, marking the end of the American football championship in the United States.
