German-Israeli woman Shani Louk, who was paraded through the streets of Gaza by Hamas militants, has been confirmed dead, according to Israel’s foreign ministry. Louk’s semi-naked body was shown in a video on the back of a truck surrounded by Hamas militants. “We are devastated to share that the death of 23-year-old German-Israeli Shani Luk was confirmed,” Israel’s foreign ministry said. Louk had been attending a festival near the Kibbutz Re’im when Hamas militants stormed the area on October 7, resulting in the death of over 260 people. In total, over 1,400 people were killed and 200 were kidnapped in the Hamas attacks that targeted the festival, towns, and military bases. Louk’s mother, Ricarda, confirmed that her daughter’s remains had been found by the Israel Defense Forces. Louk’s sister, Adi, announced her death on Instagram. A piece of skull matching Louk’s DNA had been found, indicating that she had likely been killed on October 7 with a bullet to the head. The IDF has confirmed that 239 people were kidnapped in the attacks, not including the four hostages released by Hamas. Israeli forces have launched airstrikes in Gaza in response to the attacks. The families of Israeli hostages have expressed concern for their safety and urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to secure their release.
