Ola Electric Scooter Catches Fire in Pune, Company Blames Aftermarket Parts
Recently, several videos circulated on social media depicting an Ola electric scooter catching fire in Pune. The incident occurred on Saturday near the parking lot of D.Y Patil College in Pimpri Chinchwad when an Ola S1 Pro burst into flames. The videos showed smoke billowing out of the burning scooter as the fire brigade team attempted to control the blaze using a water hose.
In response to the videos, Ola has now come forward and claimed that the incident was a result of an aftermarket part used in the scooter. The company has confirmed that the scooter’s battery remains intact and functional. Fortunately, the customer involved in the incident is safe and uninjured.
“We have received a report of an incident with one of our scooters in Pune yesterday. The customer is safe and unharmed. Our investigation has revealed that aftermarket parts used in the scooter led to a short circuit which resulted in the incident,” stated Ola in a recent statement.
Ola further emphasized its commitment to safety and urged customers to only use genuine spare parts and accessories for all service requirements. They also encouraged customers to reach out to them online or through the nearest Ola Experience Centre for support.
This incident comes amidst a series of electric two-wheeler fire accidents across the country, leading manufacturers to recall their vehicles. A few months ago, a parked Ola Electric S1 Pro caught fire in Thiruvananthapuram. In March 2022, another Ola S1 Pro scooter caught fire in the Dhanori area of Pune, resulting in Ola Electric recalling 1,441 units of its electric two-wheelers.
Following these fire incidents, the government formed a panel to examine the situation and warned companies of penalties if found negligent in ensuring safety standards.
