Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji Encourages Open Discussion on Mental Health
In a recent post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Wipro chairman Rishad Premji urged people to break the barriers surrounding mental health. He emphasized that it’s okay to not feel okay at times.
Premji stated, “We should relentlessly break barriers so that we talk about mental health with the same comfort we talk about our physical health. It’s okay to not be okay at times.”
Premji’s post has garnered over 5,000 views on X and has received a variety of comments. One user simply wrote, “Makes sense.”
This is not the first time Premji has spoken about the importance of mental health. In a previous post, he stated, “Mental health and depression are diseases like any other. It is incredibly important that we be there for our friends, family, and colleagues, especially in these difficult and isolating times.”
Premji made headlines recently when he voluntarily took a pay cut for the fiscal year 2023. His total annual compensation this year amounted to $951,353, which is nearly 50% less than his earnings from the previous year, amounting to $1,819,022. This gesture showcased his commitment to the company and its employees.
Rishad Premji joined Wipro in 2007 and has held various roles before assuming the position of Executive Chairman in 2019. He began as a general manager in Wipro’s Banking and Financial Services business, then took on responsibilities in Investor Relations, and later led Wipro’s Strategy and M&A.
Premji’s advocacy for mental health awareness and his dedication to Wipro have earned him admiration from many. By openly discussing mental health issues, he hopes to foster a supportive environment where individuals can prioritize their well-being just as they would their physical health.
