Former BJP MP’s Son Dies Due to Bed Shortage at Lucknow Hospital; Doctor Suspended
A former BJP MP’s son has tragically lost his life at Lucknow’s SGPGI Hospital due to a shortage of beds at the Emergency Ward. The grieving father, Bhairon Prasad Mishra, protested at the ward with his son’s deceased body until the government suspended the doctor involved and promised further action.
The 41-year-old Prakash Mishra, who was suffering from a kidney ailment, was rushed to the SGPGI’s Emergency ward at around 11 PM yesterday. According to Mr. Mishra, no beds were available, and the Emergency medical officer did not provide any assistance. Shortly after, his son passed away.
In response, Mr. Mishra, who previously represented Banda in parliament, staged a protest outside the Emergency ward with his son’s body. He stated, “I have lost my son, but I sat there so these guys fall in line. After me, some 20-25 people got the treatment… When I was sitting on protest everybody was complaining about him. He should be punished.”
The hospital authorities have taken immediate action by forming a three-member committee to investigate the matter. Dr. RK Dhiman, the hospital chief, stated, “The doctor advised him to take his son to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), but there were no beds available. We have formed a committee, and strict action will be taken. The doctor has been suspended as of now.”
The incident has drawn criticism from Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, who blamed the state’s BJP government. He questioned why the hospital was not provided with sufficient budgets, stating, “It is not the hospital’s fault. But it is the fault of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Why are no budgets being given to the hospital?”
This unfortunate incident highlights the urgent need for adequate resources and medical facilities to prevent such tragedies in the future. The government must prioritize the healthcare system to ensure timely and efficient care for all patients in need.
