Citadel Founder Ken Griffin Treats Over 1,200 Employees and Family Members to Tokyo Disneyland

Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin recently hosted an extravagant celebration for over 1,200 employees and family members of Citadel and Citadel Securities. The event, held in Tokyo, was organized to commemorate the companies’ significant anniversaries.

The lucky attendees, which included approximately 300 children, were treated to a visit to Walt Disney World Tokyo, encompassing both Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. In addition to exploring the magical theme parks, the guests were also entertained by live performances from popular artists Maroon 5 and Calvin Harris.

The celebration took place from October 27 to 29 and saw participation from employees based in six offices across the Asia Pacific region, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Gurugram. Ken Griffin, with a net worth of $35.4 billion, covered all expenses related to travel, accommodation, meals, Disney tickets, entertainment, and childcare.

During the event, Griffin addressed the attendees and expressed his admiration for the talent within the companies. He highlighted their achievements in shaping the future of the finance industry and building two leading firms. Following his speech, he introduced the popular band Maroon 5, who delivered an exciting performance.

The grand celebration was a double commemoration, honoring Citadel’s 30th anniversary in 2020, which was not previously celebrated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Citadel Securities’ 20th anniversary last year.

While employees from the United States, Canada, and Europe marked Citadel Securities’ 20th anniversary in 2022 with a trip to Disney World and Universal Studios, along with a Coldplay concert, COVID-19 restrictions in certain parts of Asia prevented many APAC employees from attending. Nevertheless, last year’s event attracted approximately 10,000 participants, including 2,500 children, and Griffin generously covered all expenses.

Ken Griffin’s gesture of treating his employees and their families to such an extraordinary experience demonstrates his appreciation for their hard work and dedication. It also serves as a testament to the success and growth of Citadel and Citadel Securities over the years.
