A 43-year-old resident of Manhasset, New York, was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a 6-year-old child who mistakenly placed a Halloween candy bag on his doorstep. Michael Yifan Wen was charged with menacing in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child. The incident occurred when a woman was driving her children to drop off a goody bag at her 10-year-old daughter’s friend’s house. Her two sons and nephew were also in the car. Her daughter and 6-year-old son walked up to the wrong door, rang the bell, and left the candy on the porch before realizing their mistake. When they returned, Wen came out of the house and pointed a black handgun at the child’s head, according to authorities. The mother pleaded with Wen not to harm her child. Wen’s attorney stated that his client and his family had been experiencing constant banging on their front door, which had caused fear and anxiety. Residents in the area explained that the children were playing a game called “ghosting” where they would leave a goody bag on their friend’s porch and run away. Wen, whose gun license was suspended, claimed that no candy had ever been placed on his porch before that night.
