India’s second-largest software-services exporter, Infosys Ltd, has instructed some of its employees to work from the office for 10 days a month, according to a source familiar with the matter. This decision comes as companies around the world are reconsidering their remote work policies implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic. Reasons for this shift vary from improved efficiency to enhanced collaboration.
Infosys has notified certain entry and mid-level staff members about the change through email, which will take effect from November 20. However, not all employees will be affected by this new policy. CEO Salil Parekh emphasized the company’s commitment to flexibility and mentioned that more employees are gradually returning to the office.
In a recent development, Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy sparked controversy by encouraging young Indians to work 70 hours per week for the country’s development. On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services, a larger rival of Infosys, has already mandated a five-day office workweek for its employees.
