Hardik Pandya, the talented all-rounder, is a crucial player for the Indian cricket team, providing them with a much-needed balance. In a country where top-class fast-bowling all-rounders are scarce, Pandya stands out. However, his recent injury has kept him on the sidelines, after impressing in the Cricket World Cup 2023 matches he played.

During a pre-match press conference before the game against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Pandya would not be playing in the upcoming match. However, he also shared some positive news about the player’s recovery. Sharma stated, “It is a very positive development. I can’t call it rehab, but whatever procedure he and the NCA (National Cricket Academy) had to undertake has yielded positive results. While he won’t be available for the next match, we have to monitor his injury every day. We need to assess his recovery percentage and manage his batting and bowling load. We are looking forward to the World Cup, where matches are scheduled every three to four days. There is a possibility that we will get to see him soon.”

According to a report by news agency PTI, Pandya, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, is unlikely to return to action before India’s World Cup match against the Netherlands on November 12. The final league match for India is scheduled against the Netherlands in Bengaluru on that same date. A BCCI source mentioned, “It is a minor tear. He is recovering well and is likely to return for the last league game. There is also a possibility that he straight away plays the semifinal.” With six wins in as many games, India is on track to qualify for the semifinals.

To compensate for Pandya’s absence, the team has had to make two changes to the playing eleven. They are currently playing with five bowlers, and Suryakumar Yadav has taken Pandya’s place at number six in the batting lineup. The medical team and the NCA are closely monitoring Pandya’s progress. Coach Mhambrey expressed, “The medical team is looking at that and are very much in touch with Hardik and the NCA as well. We’re hoping to get an update in a couple of days.”

It was expected that Pandya would join the team in Lucknow before the game against England, but he was not present with the squad, as stated in a BCCI media release.

The Indian cricket team eagerly awaits Pandya’s return and hopes for his swift recovery.
