An FIR has been filed against two men in Thane, Maharashtra, for allegedly setting a 25-year-old woman on fire. According to the police, the woman had been in a romantic relationship with one of the accused before ending it. The incident took place last month, and the woman, who sustained serious burns, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The prime accused, Sunijar Varma, had been in a relationship with the woman, who resides in the Mankoli area of Bhiwandi taluka. However, she recently decided to break off the relationship. In response, Varma, along with Ramesh Varma, who is also known to the woman, went to her house on October 19.
According to the victim’s statement recorded on Tuesday, the two men doused her in kerosene and set her on fire. Upon hearing her screams, neighbors rushed to her aid and took her to the hospital for treatment.
The FIR has been registered against the two men, who are currently evading arrest, under sections 307 (attempted murder), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for harm, assault, or wrongful restraint), and 34 (a criminal act committed by several persons with a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
