Recently, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin signed a law revoking Russia’s ratification of the global treaty banning nuclear testing. Some experts fear that Russia may be looking to test nuclear weapons to intimidate and create fear in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine war. However, Russian diplomats have stated that they will not resume nuclear weapons tests unless the United States does, and that their withdrawal from the treaty is only to bring Russia in line with the US, which signed but never ratified the treaty.
