Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2023: Rajasthan’s Smallest Polling Booth Exclusively Voted by 1 Family with Only 35 Voters

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made a unique decision for the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan. In a remote village on the Indo-Pak border in Barmer district, where the population is just 35, the ECI has set up a polling booth. What makes this polling booth special is that all 35 voters in the village are members of a single family.

The village, known as “Badmer Ka Paar,” has faced difficulties in previous elections. The villagers had to travel 20 kilometers to the nearest polling station to cast their votes. This journey was particularly challenging for women and elderly individuals, who had to walk or ride camels. Consequently, in previous elections, the majority of votes were cast by male members only.

However, this year, the ECI’s decision to establish a polling booth inside the village will benefit all of the villagers. The news of the polling booth has brought great joy to the villagers, especially the women, who are eagerly anticipating and ready to celebrate this democratic event.

Out of the 35 registered voters in the village, 17 are women and 18 are men. This signifies a more equitable representation and participation in the democratic process. Previously, the Congress won 99 seats and the BJP won 73 seats in the 200-member house during the 2018 assembly elections. Ashok Gehlot came to power with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.

Rajasthan is scheduled to go to polls on November 25, and the counting of votes will take place on December 5, along with the four other state assembly elections.
