Officials have reported that a section of Interstate 10 in Los Angeles, California, will remain closed indefinitely as crews work to assess the damage caused by a fire on November 11. According to local news, the closure is expected to cause major delays as traffic will need to be rerouted. In response to the situation, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles County on Sunday to facilitate clean-up and repair work. The fire reportedly damaged several columns supporting the freeway section, as stated by local media. During a press conference on Monday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed concerns about the closure, stating that it would disrupt the lives of Angelenos. California Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin revealed that over 300,000 cars travel on this section of I-10 daily. Caltrans has released footage showing the damage near the intersection of I-10 and East 14th Street in Downtown Los Angeles.
