Tragic End: 6-Year-Old Texas Boy Passes Away 2 Months After Alleged Baseball Bat Attack by Neighbor

A 6-year-old boy from Texas, who was brutally attacked with a baseball bat by his neighbor in his own home, has tragically passed away after spending two months in the hospital. Jeremy Diaz was admitted to the hospital on September 11 with skull fractures and brain swelling, caused by the early morning assault. The neighbor, Daniel Logan, entered the Diaz home and assaulted both Jeremy and his mother with the baseball bat, as stated in a probable cause affidavit filed by a detective from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeremy’s father, Arturo Diaz, shared the devastating news of his son’s death in an update on the family’s GoFundMe page. He described how he noticed Jeremy’s pale face and motionless eyes before his heart stopped. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, they were unsuccessful. Arturo Diaz expressed his admiration for his son, describing him as a wonderful and loving child who treated others with kindness.

Daniel Logan, 39, is currently facing two felony charges: injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member. The sheriff’s office has stated that if necessary, they will work with the district attorney’s office to present a case of capital murder to a grand jury. Logan’s attorney, Marc Chavez, offered prayers to Jeremy’s family and urged everyone to reserve judgment until all the facts are revealed. Chavez also mentioned the possibility of serious mental illness being a factor in the incident.

According to the affidavit, the incident occurred at 5:17 a.m. on September 11 in Georgetown, Texas. Logan’s wife, Kristen, reported being awakened by banging noises and discovering that their back door was open with a hole in the picket fence. She also noticed that the glass on their neighbor’s patio door had been shattered. Kristen Logan then heard her mother-in-law, Cynthia Logan, yell for her to call 911 from inside the neighbor’s house. Cynthia Logan emerged from the patio door with her face covered in blood, explaining that she had been hit with a bat when she tried to intervene after Daniel Logan confronted a male in the neighbor’s house.

Cynthia Logan suffered injuries including swelling around her left eye, a facial cut, and the loss of a tooth, as documented in her discharge report from the hospital. Daniel Logan is currently in custody with bonds totaling $650,000. He was deemed incompetent to stand trial in October and has a mental health hearing scheduled for November 28.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock, and the family is now grieving the loss of their beloved son.
