PM Modi Expresses Strong Disapproval of Civilian Losses in Gaza Conflict

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condemnation for the deaths of civilians in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and stressed the urgent need for unity and cooperation among the Global South in response to the escalating challenges in West Asia. Speaking at the inaugural session of the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit, PM Modi reiterated India’s unwavering stance against violence and terrorism, including the October 7 attacks by Hamas on Israel. He emphasized the importance of exercising restraint and prioritizing dialogue as the key elements of conflict resolution.

PM Modi stated, “We are witnessing new challenges arising from the events in the West Asia region. India has condemned the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7. We have also exercised restraint and emphasized dialogue and diplomacy. We strongly condemn the deaths of civilians in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.” He further mentioned that India has provided humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine after consulting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. PM Modi called for the countries of the Global South to unite for the greater global good.

The Global South refers to a group of countries primarily located in the Southern Hemisphere in Asia, Africa, and South America, which face common challenges such as poverty, inequality, and limited access to resources, despite their varying levels of economic development.

The Israel-Hamas conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis, mostly civilians, and over 11,000 people in the densely populated Palestinian enclave of Gaza, which is a Hamas stronghold.

PM Modi advocated for a collaborative strategy guided by the “five Cs” principles: consultation, communication, cooperation, creativity, and capacity building. He highlighted India’s presidency of the G20 in 2023, which witnessed the African Union’s accession as a permanent member of the group, marking the first expansion of the G20 since its establishment in 1999 and signaling a new era of inclusive global economic governance.

The Prime Minister’s statements come at a crucial time when the international community is seeking a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and working towards peace and stability in the region.
