Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has made a significant move in the tech industry by appointing former OpenAI Chief Sam Altman and former President Greg Brockman to lead a new team for advanced research in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This decision has cemented Microsoft’s position in the AI industry and solidified its competition with Google.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Nadella expressed his commitment to the partnership with OpenAI and confidence in Microsoft’s product roadmap and ability to innovate. He also mentioned looking forward to working with OpenAI’s new leadership team.
Reacting to the news, Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com and Shark Tank India judge, praised Nadella for pulling off “one of the biggest coups of history and future.” He criticized OpenAI’s board and management structures, urging them to make good decisions and stand behind them.
Mittal also expressed concern about the concentration of AI in private tech companies, mentioning Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg circling a depleted OpenAI. He emphasized the need for a unique approach to AI and suggested that India could contribute, just as it did with digital infrastructure.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s staff has threatened to quit and join Altman at Microsoft unless the board resigns. Around 500 staff members, including top executives, have stated their intention to resign.
This move by Microsoft has solidified its position in the AI industry and sets the stage for advancements in research and innovation.
