Four bodies have been discovered in a car that had overturned and partially submerged in water, bringing an end to the search for a group of missing teenagers. The North Wales Police confirmed that the bodies were found in the vehicle, which had veered off the road on the A4085 in Garreg, near Tremadog, Gwynedd.
The missing individuals, Wilf Henderson, Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, and Hugo Morris, all hailing from Shrewsbury, had been reported missing since Sunday morning. Superintendent Owain Llewellyn expressed his belief that this was a tragic accident.
During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Supt Llewellyn revealed that it was believed the group had planned to camp in Eryri, also known as Snowdonia, following their trip to Harlech on Saturday. Their last sighting occurred in a silver Ford Fiesta, which was eventually discovered by the police during their search on Tuesday after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public.
Supt Llewellyn stated, “Shortly after 10 am this morning, a member of the public contacted us reporting a vehicle that had left the road between Beddgelert and Llanfrothen. Police officers attended the scene and found an upside-down Ford Fiesta partially submerged in water. This has been an extensive search involving multiple agencies and volunteers, and unfortunately, this is not the outcome any of us desired.”
The police force conveyed their condolences to the family and friends of the four teenagers. Crystal Owen, Harvey’s mother, shared with the BBC that she was en route to north Wales to be closer to the search efforts. Ms. Owen expressed her unawareness of her son’s camping plans, believing instead that he was going to stay at a friend’s grandfather’s house.
All four boys were students at Shrewsbury College and were pursuing A-levels.
