Adani Group’s Mundra Port Sets Record with Highest-Ever Monthly Volume

Adani Group’s Mundra Port Achieves Record-Breaking Cargo Volume in October

Mundra Port, the flagship port of Adani Group, has achieved a significant milestone by handling 16.1 million tonnes of cargo in October. This is the highest-ever volume recorded by any port in India, according to a statement released by the conglomerate.

With a total of 102 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo handled so far this year, Mundra Port is the largest port in the country. It has witnessed a commendable 9% year-on-year growth. Moreover, the port accomplished this feat in just 210 days, surpassing the previous record of 231 days set last year.

According to the press release issued on Sunday, Mundra Port experienced double-digit growth in container and liquid gas volumes on a year-on-year basis. Additionally, it achieved another significant milestone by handling 4.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers in just 203 days, surpassing the previous financial year’s record of 225 days.

The port also expanded its cargo portfolio by adding new types such as Hydrolysis Pi Gas (HPG). In 2023 alone, Mundra Port accommodated over 2,480 ships and serviced more than 11,500 rakes.

Mundra Port’s strategic location has enabled it to provide excellent facilities and handle large vessels due to its deep draft capabilities. In July 2023, the port berthed one of the largest ships ever, the MV MSC Hamburg, measuring 399 meters in length and 54 meters in width, with a carrying capacity of 15,908 TEUs and a reported draught of 12 meters.

The port’s strong connectivity with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) has further enhanced its efficiency and effectiveness. With the current growth rate in cargo volume, Mundra Port is targeting a milestone of 200 MMT in the fiscal year 2024-2025.
