Athletico Poised to Set Historic Unbeaten Record in Paranaense Championship

Athletico, already having secured its place in the second phase of the Campeonato Paranaense, is standing on the precipice of attaining a significant accomplishment in the forthcoming match against Factory Worker this Thursday (15th) at the Lying Arena.

The victory or even a draw in the upcoming clash will result in Furacão setting a record of 27 games without defeat in the State Championship, a feat which was last achieved more than four decades ago in the 1980s. As it stands, Rubro-negro has managed to stay undefeated since 2022.

The last time Athletico tasted defeat was against Coritiba in the semi-finals of that year’s State Championship, succumbing to a 2-1 loss on home ground. Since that setback, Athletico has registered an impressive 21 victories and five draws in the competition.

The most extended period of staying unbeaten in Furacão’s history stretched between the 1981 and 1982 State Championships, culminating in them being crowned champions after a 12-year wait.

The current streak of games without loss began with a draw against Coritiba in 2022, a year in which they were eliminated by the eventual champions Alviverde. However, in 2023, Rubro-negro bounced back to become the undefeated champions of Paranaense.

The ninth round of the competition sees Athletico welcoming Fantasma to their home ground, the Ligga Arena, for a match scheduled to start at 7pm this Thursday.
