Austell Neighbor’s Rifle Shot Turns Morning Jog into Terrifying Ordeal for Man

A man in Cobb County, Georgia was shot at while out for a jog in his aunt’s neighborhood. Justin Culpepper, who was training for a boxing match, set out for a jog in Austell subdivision at around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. As he was running, a neighbor named Alejandro Aveldanez reportedly fired a rifle at him. Culpepper quickly turned around and saw Aveldanez holding the rifle, waving it at him and telling him to leave.

Culpepper circled the block and when he reached his aunt Shannon Allen’s home, he saw Aveldanez sitting in his vehicle outside. Culpepper ran inside and informed Allen about the incident. Allen, who was getting dressed at the time, said she saw Aveldanez but didn’t think much of it until her nephew told her that the man had shot at him.

When they went downstairs, Aveldanez was gone. However, as they tried to back out of the driveway to go to his house, Aveldanez pulled up in the cul-de-sac in front of Allen’s home. He asked Allen if Culpepper lived with her, to which she responded by saying she would call the police.

The Cobb County Police arrived at the scene and arrested Aveldanez. He has been charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor. Allen believes that he should face more serious charges, considering the potential danger he posed to her nephew’s life. She expressed her fear that if her garage door hadn’t been open, Culpepper could have been shot in the back while fumbling to get inside.

Aveldanez has since been released on bond.
