In 2022, Saad al-Hariri stepped down from his position as Prime Minister. He cited the increasing Iranian influence in Lebanon and fear of his own assassination as key reasons for his resignation. Al-Hariri Jr. also announced his retirement from political life following his resignation. He expressed concerns about Iran’s expanding influence over Lebanon through the political and militant group, Hezbollah. As part of his withdrawal, he urged his party to abstain from participating in the parliamentary elections.
