Beyerdynamic Enters the Gaming Headset Market with Their Debut Wireless Option

Audio company Beyerdynamic has entered the gaming market with its new wireless gaming headset, the MMX 200. Priced at $249, the headset offers features such as low-latency wireless, Bluetooth and analog connections, memory foam and leatherette earpads, a detachable boom mic, and a battery life of up to 35 hours. The MMX 200 is available in black or gray on Beyerdynamic’s website.

While the specifications of the MMX 200 may seem familiar to those who have looked at other wireless gaming headsets, the tuning sets it apart. In a brief evaluation, the headset showcased a wide soundstage and impressive lows. However, a full review is yet to come as the evaluation unit arrived too late for extensive testing.

Weighing 0.79 pounds (258g), the MMX 200 is not exceptionally light but still manageable. It does not feature active noise cancellation, but the snug fit and leatherette material effectively block out a significant amount of sound. Additionally, the headset has a transparency setting called Augmented mode, which allows ambient sound to be heard.

The MMX 200 is designed to be durable and allows for the replacement of earcups and the battery (although the latter is not user-replaceable).

Despite its impressive features, there are a few downsides to the MMX 200. It does not support simultaneous low-latency and Bluetooth wireless connections, only analog and Bluetooth. Additionally, there is no game/chat mix option, as the audio is always split 50/50. Some users may also find that the headset causes sweating after extended use. The accompanying software is only available on iOS and Android devices, although it includes a hearing test feature.
