Brazilian President Compares Israelis to Hitler, Accuses Israel of Genocide

During his visit to the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, the President of Brazil, Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva, drew a parallel between the horrors of the Holocaust and the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip. The Holocaust, one of the most devastating genocides in history, targeted the European Jewish population and resulted in the death of nearly six million Jews. President Silva, in a bold statement, compared this historical event to the current actions of Israel in the Gaza Strip.

“The situation in the Gaza Strip cannot be simply classified as war. It is a genocide,” he said. The President further highlighted the gravity of the situation by pointing out that it is not a battle between soldiers but rather an instance where a well-trained army is pitted against innocent women and children. “Such a situation has only occurred once in history, during the time when Hitler decided to exterminate the Jews,” he added, referring to the Holocaust.

It is worth noting that soon after his election, President Silva had appealed to powerful nations such as the United States and the European Union to cease military aid to Ukraine. He had also made a somewhat controversial statement asserting that despite an international arrest warrant for child abduction charges in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin would still be welcome in Brazil. This statement drew attention to the President’s stance on international diplomacy and relations.
