Two NYPD officers were assaulted at the Freeman train station in the Bronx, New York on Monday. The incident occurred when the officers approached a group of individuals and requested them to extinguish their cigarettes. The group, who were seen smoking as they entered the station in Crotona Park at approximately 2:30 p.m., refused to comply with the officers’ request. As the officers attempted to remove the group, they fought back, resulting in the officers sustaining minor injuries. Eventually, the officers managed to apprehend the group. Interestingly, this assault follows another incident over the weekend where a uniformed NYPD lieutenant was attacked by two men at a subway station. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has recently reported an increase in felony assaults within the subway system, with 491 cases recorded between January 1 and November 5. This figure surpasses the total of 470 felony assaults reported throughout the entirety of 2022. Anyone who possesses information regarding these incidents is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
