CEO Ignites Negotiations with Athletes from Athletico and Coritiba

The chief executive officer of the Fortaleza football club, Marcelo Paz, expressed feelings of betrayal during a press conference on Monday (19). He stated that the negotiations with Coritiba involving the midfielder Bruno Gomes, and with Ponte Preta, involving Felipinho, did not go as expected.

He went on to say that both athletes, formerly of Alviverde and Ponte respectively, were sold to different teams despite having prior discussions with Fortaleza. Bruno Gomes was sold to Internacional, while Felipinho was bought by Athletico. According to Paz, both players had agreed to terms with Fortaleza prior to their abrupt departure.

Paz further elaborated on the details of the negotiation process. He stated that both Bruno Gomes and Felipinho were in talks with Fortaleza, discussing salary, contract terms, and commission. However, both athletes changed their course of action despite giving their word to Fortaleza, leading to Paz’s feelings of deceit.

In the case of Bruno Gomes, negotiations were underway for his sale to Fortaleza. However, Internacional intervened and finalized the purchase. Gomes had reportedly received a call from coach Eduardo Coudet, expressing his desire to play for the Rio Grande do Sul club.

Paz expressed his frustration, stating that both players had given their word to Fortaleza but broke it when a better opportunity arose. He warned against making irresponsible decisions, stating that such actions could lead to the downfall of the club.

In 2022, Bruno Gomes was loaned from Colorado to Alviverde, before being purchased by the Paraná club in January 2023. Interestingly, Internacional already had a 50% stake in the player’s rights.

On the other hand, midfielder Felipinho was set to be traded to Fortaleza. However, Athletico emerged as the final destination for the player, who was announced last week and has a contract valid for four years.
