China and US Urged to Foster ‘Objective’ Understanding of Strategic Intentions

China’s foreign ministry has called for an objective understanding of each other’s strategic intentions between China and the United States. The ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, emphasized the need for a correct view of competitive factors in future exchanges during a regular press briefing. This statement comes after China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, expressed that the road to a meeting between the leaders of the two countries in San Francisco would be challenging.

Recently, China’s foreign minister met with U.S. President Joe Biden and his top aides in Washington, where they agreed to work together towards an expected bilateral meeting on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit. Wang Wenbin highlighted Wang Yi’s emphasis on abiding by the consensus of the two heads of state, stabilizing bilateral relations, and maintaining open channels of communication.

In addition to these efforts, China and the United States have agreed to hold consultations on maritime affairs, arms control, and non-proliferation in the coming days. The aim is to address various important issues and foster mutual understanding.
