Former President Donald Trump claimed in a recent interview that if he had been allowed to go to the Capitol during the January 6 insurrection, he would have been warmly welcomed by those involved in the attack. Trump made these comments in an interview with ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl for his book, titled “Tired of Winning.” The interview, which took place in March 2021, was aired by CNN on Thursday.
During the interview, Trump expressed his desire to go back to the Capitol during the chaos to personally intervene and put an end to the situation. However, the Secret Service was not in favor of this idea. Trump stated, “And I could’ve done that. And you know what? I would have been very well received.”
It is worth noting that it took Trump more than three hours after his supporters breached the Capitol barricades to post a video on X (formerly known as Twitter), urging them to “go home.” This delay in addressing the situation has been a subject of criticism.
