Adi Hütter faced a setback in his 600th competitive game as a head football coach, as his team, AS Monaco, suffered a 5-6 defeat by penalties against the third division team, FC Rouen, in the French Cup’s round of 16 on Thursday evening.
The game was tied at 1:1 after the regular time. However, a renewal or overtime in the French Cup is only allowed in the final.
Folarin Balogun had given Monaco the lead with a penalty at the 35th minute, but Clement Bassin from the underdog team managed to level the score during stoppage time in the first half (45’+5).
In the penalty shootout, Balogun missed the initial opportunity to secure a victory, and then Maghnes Akliouche failed the decisive shot. This defeat comes at a time when Monaco has recently dropped to fifth place in Ligue 1, following three games without a win.
