Approximately 30 students staged a walkout from a class taught by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at Columbia University on Thursday. The protest was in response to the Israel-Hamas war and specifically targeted the university’s alleged complicity in a truck parked near campus that displayed photos of students who had signed a letter blaming Israel for the Oct. 7 Hamas attack. The photos were accompanied by the words “Columbia’s Leading Antisemites.” The students claimed that the photos were taken from a supposedly secure and private online platform for students at the School of International and Public Affairs. The protest was peaceful and premeditated, with the international and public affairs school dean expressing support for the students after the lecture. The students’ statement held the Israeli extremist government responsible for the war and casualties. This demonstration at Columbia University adds to the wave of unrest on college campuses nationwide regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Recently, students at George Washington University faced criticism and national attention for projecting anti-Israel messages on a library building. Senator Mike Lee of Utah condemned the messages, calling them genocidal and urging the university to take severe action against those responsible.
