Vir Das emerged victorious at the International Emmy Awards, held in New York, as he clinched the prize for Comedy. This win marked his first victory after being nominated for the second time. Das was honored with the Best Comedy Series award for his Netflix stand-up special, “Vir Das: Landing.” The recognition was shared with the third season of the UK show, “Derry Girls.” Previously, Das had been nominated in the same category in 2021 for his stand-up special titled “Vir Das: For India.”
The International Emmy Awards Twitter account announced the tie between Das and “Derry Girls” with a tweet. The event witnessed the presence of four Indians, including Shefali Shah, who unfortunately missed out on the Best Actress award, which was claimed by Mexico’s Karla Souza. Shah had been nominated for her role in “Delhi Crime,” a previous International Emmy winner. Jim Sarbh was also unsuccessful in securing the Best Actor award for “Rocket Boys,” as UK star Martin Freeman walked away with the prize. Ektaa Kapoor was honored with the International Emmy Directorate Award this year.
Magician Penn Jillette served as the host for the International Emmy Awards ceremony.
