Starting on November 1, Disney Plus will implement new rules that require users outside of a household to pay extra for password sharing and account usage. Canadian subscribers received email notifications from the streaming service, informing them of these changes. The notice stated that subscribers are not allowed to share their subscription outside of their household, and any violation of this agreement may result in limited or terminated access to the service. This decision follows Disney CEO Bob Iger’s previous announcement to crack down on password sharing, similar to Netflix’s approach of charging extra for additional users. Netflix allows premium subscribers to have two extra people on their account, standard subscribers can add one extra person, and lower-tier subscribers are not allowed any additional users. It is unclear whether Disney Plus will have similar rules based on different plan tiers. Additionally, Disney Plus will be increasing its pricing on October 12, which includes bundled services with Hulu. The streaming provider has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding these changes.
