DMK MP Apologizes in Lok Sabha After Controversial Remark

DMK MP, DNV Senthilkumar, has issued an apology in the Lok Sabha for his controversial remark regarding heartland states. Senthilkumar returned to the Lower House today and expressed regret for his remarks, which targeted the BJP.

“If the statement made by me yesterday inadvertently hurt the sentiments of the members and sections of the people, I would like to withdraw it. I request the words to be expunged and I express my regret,” stated Mr. Senthilkumar during his address to the Lok Sabha.

Although his apology came a day later, Senthilkumar’s remark had already been expunged from the records on the previous day.

During a debate on two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir, Senthilkumar claimed that the BJP can only win elections in the northern states and not in southern India.

This statement further fueled the ongoing ‘north-south’ debate, which arose after the BJP’s victory in the heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, while the Congress dominated Telangana.

BJP leaders responded to Senthilkumar’s remark by questioning if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi agreed with his statement.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur accused the Congress and its allies from the Opposition camp of conspiring against north India and Hindus. According to Thakur, the recent election defeat did not diminish Congress’ arrogance.

The apology from Senthilkumar aims to mitigate the tensions caused by his initial remark and promote a more constructive and respectful dialogue in the Lok Sabha.
