Don Gallo’s Journey to Parliament: A Fictional Exploration – Where Have You Been?

The Avs group leader, Peppe De Cristofaro, who is also the president of the Mixed Senate and a member of Rai Supervision, has raised concerns about the status of the drama about Don Gallo. He has expressed his intention to inquire from Maria Pia Ammirati, the director of Rai Fiction, the general director Rossi, and the managing director Sergio about why the drama about the Genoese ‘street priest’ has been suspended and the reasons behind its non-broadcasting status.

De Cristofaro continues to express his confusion over the matter as both the set and the collaboration with the Genoa and Liguria Film Commission, including the working days, had been defined. However, there has been no progress since then, and the project seems to have been shrouded in mystery. He noted that the drama about Don Gallo’s life is not included in Rai’s schedule for this year, which is concerning.

He further points out that Rai should have made the series on Don Gallo before the Meloni government came into power. Given the suspension of the project, he suspects that it might be an attempt to appease the new Rai ‘masters’. He emphasizes Don Gallo’s significant role as a street priest, an entertainer of the Community of San Benedetto al Porto, a partisan, and a pacifist. He was a figure who was always close to the less privileged, a group that De Cristofaro believes the Meloni government neglects. He argues that Rai is not TeleMeloni and should focus on providing public service. He believes that the series on Don Gallo is a significant public service series and confirms that they will present a question to Rai Supervision regarding this matter.
