A British couple has claimed that they were assaulted by a passport control officer at a Spanish airport. Sarah Mensah said she was pushed against a wall by the officer, while her husband Frankie alleges that he was attacked when he tried to defend her. The incident occurred as the couple, along with their son, his fiancée, and their three-year-old twins, were on their way to catch a Ryanair flight from Alicante to Stansted. The couple is angry not only at the officer’s behavior but also at the lack of intervention from Ryanair staff who witnessed the incident. The incident has left the couple shaken and hesitant to travel again. They have filed complaints with both Ryanair and Alicante airport, but Ryanair referred them back to the airport, while the airport provided them with a form that had no appropriate sections for their complaint. The officer’s attack began when he shouted at Mrs. Mensah to open her passport, even though it was already open on the page with her picture. He then grabbed her and shouted at her in Spanish. Mr. Mensah witnessed the attack and tried to intervene but was also shouted at and pushed by the officer. The officer demanded their passports, even though he had already stamped them. Mr. Mensah reluctantly handed them over, fearing the consequences if he didn’t comply. The officer eventually returned their passports, and the couple did not make a complaint at the time for fear of missing their flight. However, they are now seeking an apology from Ryanair and the airport for the officer’s behavior. They believe that a passport control officer should not behave in such a manner, especially towards innocent travelers. Ryanair and Alicante Airport have been approached for comment.
