Law enforcement authorities in Colorado are conducting an investigation after discovering the body of a heavily armed man at an amusement park. The 22-year-old man was found dead inside Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs over the weekend. The park employees alerted officials about the body before the park opened for the day.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office stated that the man was wearing body armor and had multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on him. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was dressed in black tactical clothing with emblems that resembled those worn by law enforcement officers. He was armed with a semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, and several loaded magazines for both weapons. Additionally, a bomb squad was called to the scene to safely handle the IEDs found with the suspect and his associated vehicle.
Law enforcement authorities reassured the community that there is currently no danger, and the investigation suggests that the suspect’s actions were limited to the park property. The park remained closed while officials ensured the safety of the public and conducted a thorough search of the property and the suspect’s residence.
The cause and manner of the man’s death are pending an autopsy by the Garfield County coroner. Investigators are also examining whether any tampering occurred with the park’s rides, equipment, or facilities.
The park, which is known as the nation’s only mountain-top theme park, offers various attractions such as roller coasters, zip lines, and mountain-top dining. The management expressed their gratitude for the swift action and thorough work of the authorities involved in the investigation. However, the park remained closed as the investigation continued.
