A woman in Marion County, Florida, has been arrested after attempting to steal approximately $330 worth of groceries from a Winn-Dixie store, according to authorities. Sarah Howe was charged with misdemeanor retail theft following the incident that took place at the Winn-Dixie on East Highway 40 in Silver Springs on November 6. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a report about the theft, and the store manager informed deputies that Howe had allegedly stolen from the store the previous day. According to an arrest affidavit, Howe pretended to need an additional item while checking out and took the shopping cart with her. She then walked out of the store without paying, bypassing all points of sale. The cashier stated that the total amount owed was $328.34. The store manager identified Howe through her Winn-Dixie card, which had her personal information attached to it. Deputies went to Howe’s listed address and were informed by the occupants of the house that she had recently left for the store. Later that day, Howe was found and arrested at a Family Dollar store. During a post-Miranda interview, she admitted to leaving Winn-Dixie without paying for the items in her cart. Howe is currently held at the Marion County Jail on a $500 bond.
