Former Indian Cricketer’s Concise Reply on Coaching Pakistan Team

Pakistan had a disappointing campaign at the ODI World Cup in India, with only four victories out of nine matches, leading to their elimination in the league stage. The team, particularly Babar Azam, faced heavy criticism from former cricketers and experts. As a result, Babar stepped down as captain from all three formats. Among the five matches Pakistan lost, their biggest upset came from a defeat by Afghanistan, marking the first time Afghanistan had registered a win against Pakistan at an ODI World Cup.

Afghanistan, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, finished sixth in the points table and had former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja as their mentor. Due to the changes in Pakistan’s team and coaching staff after the World Cup debacle, Jadeja was asked if he would be interested in coaching Pakistan. He expressed his willingness, stating that he had shared his learnings with the Afghan team and believed that Pakistan, like Afghanistan, had the potential for improvement.

In addition to Babar stepping down as captain, the Pakistan cricket team also made changes to the management team that had accompanied them to India. Opening batter Shan Masood was appointed as the leader of the red-ball team, while Shaheen Afridi was named captain of the T20I team. On the management front, Mohammad Hafeez was appointed as Director of Cricket, and former pacer Wahab Riaz took over as the chairman of selectors.

Pakistan is currently in Australia for a series of three Tests, with the first game scheduled to take place in Perth on December 14. However, before the series begins, Pakistan will play a four-day game at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, starting from Wednesday.

Overall, Pakistan is striving to recover from their disappointing World Cup campaign and is making significant changes to their leadership and management in hopes of achieving better results in future matches.
