A former middle school teacher in the United States has been arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with a 14-year-old student eight years ago. Melissa Marie Curtis, 31, is facing charges after an investigation was opened last month when an adult male came forward with allegations of abuse. The incidents were said to have occurred in 2015 when Curtis was 22 years old and teaching at Montgomery Village Middle School in Montgomery County.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, Curtis is accused of engaging in sexual acts with the student in her vehicle and at various residences in the area between January and May 2015. It is alleged that she provided the eighth grader with alcohol and marijuana and had sexual intercourse with him over 20 times. Curtis had been a teacher for approximately two years and had also worked at Lakelands Park Middle School.
A warrant for Curtis’ arrest was obtained on October 31. She is currently charged with sexual abuse of a minor and multiple counts of third and fourth-degree sexual offenses. Police believe there may be additional victims.
Curtis turned herself in on Tuesday and is awaiting a bond hearing. Montgomery County Public Schools confirmed that she has not been employed with the district since 2017.
