The Israeli Army launched an offensive against the Gaza Strip following the attacks perpetrated on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement, also known as Hamas. This has resulted in a significant increase in Palestinian casualties, with the current death toll reported to be approximately 28,500, according to the authorities of the Gaza Strip, which is under the control of the Islamist group.
A statement from the Gaza Ministry of Health revealed that the number of fatalities from the Israeli aggression has escalated to 28,473, with around 68,146 injured since October 7. They also confirmed that in the last 24 hours alone, there have been 133 deaths and 162 injuries.
The Ministry also emphasized that the Israeli occupation had carried out 16 massacres against families within the Gaza Strip in just the last day. They highlighted the ongoing crisis by stating that many victims remain unattended under the rubble and on the streets. The Israeli forces are preventing ambulances and Civil Defense personnel from reaching these victims, adding to the crisis.
The offensive by Israel was in response to the earlier mentioned attacks by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 individuals and left another 240 injured. In addition to these casualties, 384 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem due to attacks by Israeli security forces and settlers.
