Google Launches Artificial Intelligence Center in Paris

The tech giant, Google, has recently inaugurated its new cutting-edge research and development center, focusing on the advancements of artificial intelligence (AI) in the heart of Paris. The grand inauguration of the esteemed institution was graced by the presence of Google’s Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai, and the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire. This development comes after Google’s initial establishment in Paris back in 2018. In this new research center, Google plans to assemble a team of over 300 dedicated researchers and engineers. These specialists will work collaboratively towards the development and enhancement of Google’s popular products, including the widely-used video-sharing platform, YouTube, and the renowned Chrome browser.

However, Google is not the sole major tech corporation that has shown interest in investing in artificial intelligence research in Paris. Back in 2015, Facebook, another tech titan, had established its significant laboratory known as Fair (Facebook artificial intelligence research). This initiative was propelled by the efforts of French researcher Yann Le Cun, who is an expert at Meta and a pioneer in machine learning, having made significant contributions to the foundation of modern AI. Notably, this is the first Facebook AI research lab situated outside the boundaries of the United States. Other global tech leaders such as the Japanese company Fujitsu, Korean conglomerate Samsung, and the American multinational IBM have also marked their presence by opening research centers in the French capital.
