Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Darrell Issa of California engaged in a heated exchange on Tuesday. Issa criticized Greene for lacking the “maturity and experience” to understand the proper procedure for bringing an impeachment vote against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In response, Greene called Issa a derogatory term on her social media account.
Greene had initially attacked Issa for voting against a measure to impeach Mayorkas, which was ultimately referred back to committee. Issa defended his vote, stating that privileged resolutions are typically brought by leaders and referred to committee. He also emphasized the importance of a deliberative process for impeachment.
Tensions within the House Republican caucus have been high since the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the subsequent struggles to find a replacement. In another incident on Tuesday, Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee accused McCarthy of elbowing him and confronted him in a Capitol hallway.
