Health Code Violations Force Temporary Closure of 2 Kansas City Restaurants; Leaking ‘Brown Liquid’ Discovered in 1

Two restaurants in Kansas City were temporarily shut down by the Health Department, but both have since reopened after making necessary improvements. According to a report from the department, Domino’s located at 531 Grand Blvd. was forced to close on November 9th due to a concerning observation made by health inspectors. They noticed a “dark brown liquid” leaking from the ceiling onto the food shelves below. However, after a follow-up inspection by health officials, no health code violations were found, leading to the restaurant reopening on Tuesday. Despite attempts to contact Domino’s for comment, they could not be reached. An employee did mention to The Star on Wednesday that the apartments above had experienced flooding, affecting the restaurant located beneath them in the River Market area.

Another restaurant, Curry in a Hurry at 1103 Grand Blvd., faced closure on Tuesday after inspectors discovered various violations. One of the issues noted was that a cooler was operating above the safe temperature of 41 degrees, as prescribed by the Food and Drug Administration. Additionally, the report highlighted that the back area, housing several compartment sinks, was in a state of disrepair. Furthermore, one employee was found to be working without a food handler’s permit. The owner of Curry in a Hurry was unavailable for comment. However, after a follow-up inspection, the restaurant was able to reopen on Thursday.

Both establishments have taken the necessary steps to address the violations and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
