Yemen’s Houthi movement has announced its involvement in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Islamist militants in Gaza, stating that it has launched a series of missiles and drones targeting Israel. This development has raised concerns among world powers about the potential for the conflict to spread to more countries. The announcement followed Israel’s military claiming to have intercepted two objects in separate incidents near the Red Sea.
The Houthi movement’s military spokesperson confirmed that this recent launch was their third since the conflict began, suggesting their involvement in an incident on October 19, when the U.S. Navy intercepted three cruise missiles over the Red Sea. Additionally, a drone attack on October 28, resulting in explosions in Egypt, was attributed to the Houthis by Israel.
The Houthi spokesperson stated that they would continue their attacks on Israel until the Israeli aggression ceases. The Houthi movement is part of the “Axis of Resistance,” an alliance of armed groups supported by Iran, which also includes Hamas. A video released by the Houthis showcased their military drills.
Israel’s military has emphasized its focus on Gaza and stated that the Houthis are just one of Iran’s many proxies, a claim that the Houthi movement has denied.
