ICC Reveals Official Rating for India vs Australia World Cup Final Pitch Amid Ongoing Controversy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as “average” for the ODI World Cup final between India and Australia. The match referee, Andy Pycroft, gave a rating of “very good” to the outfield. Australia emerged victorious in the final, defeating India by six wickets on a slow and sluggish pitch.

India, opting to bowl, could only score 240 runs in their 50 overs, while Australia comfortably chased down the target in 43 overs, with opener Travis Head scoring a brilliant 137 off 120 balls.

The ICC also rated the pitches used in India’s league matches against South Africa, England, Pakistan, and Australia as “average.” These matches took place in Kolkata, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Chennai, respectively.

In contrast, the Wankhede Stadium pitch, on which India played New Zealand in the semifinals, received a “good” rating. There were rumors before the match that the hosts had switched the pitch, offering a used surface instead of a fresh one.

The ICC also gave an “average” rating to the Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata, where Australia faced South Africa in the second semifinal. It turned out to be a low-scoring match, with South Africa being dismissed for 212 runs in 49.4 overs. Australia then chased down the target in 47.2 overs, losing seven wickets.

The match referee, Javagal Srinath, rated the outfield at Eden Gardens as “very good.”
