Indian-American Man Amit Patel Accused of Embezzling $22 Million from Football Team: Unveiling His Identity and Background

Former Jaguars employee Amit Patel has been charged with wire fraud for allegedly stealing over $22 million from the football team, according to court records. Patel is accused of exploiting the organization’s virtual credit card program. During his time with the Jaguars, Patel held titles such as coordinator, financial planning and analysis, and manager, financial planning and analysis.

Patel allegedly used the stolen funds to purchase two vehicles, a condominium, a designer watch, and other items. He also invested in cryptocurrency, placed bets on online gambling sites, and chartered personal jets. Although the team’s name was not disclosed in the federal filing, the Jaguars confirmed that Patel embezzled from the franchise.

In a statement, the Jaguars said they terminated Patel’s employment in February 2023 and have fully cooperated with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida during the investigation. The team clarified that Patel had no access to confidential football information and that an independent review concluded no other team employees were involved or aware of his criminal activity.

Patel served in the Jaguars’ finance department for at least five complete seasons, starting in 2018. Prosecutors argue that by 2019, he became the “sole administrator” of the organization’s virtual credit card program, giving him the power to approve new accounts and make changes to available credit. He was also responsible for categorizing virtual credit card transactions in business reports.

Patel is facing charges of wire fraud and engaging in an illicit monetary transaction related to his purchase of a $95,000 watch online. He has chosen to be charged by information instead of indictment, and his first court date is yet to be scheduled.
